Mr. McNamara has over 12 years experience in professional development and training as a program manager, instructor, training designer, and facilitator, with time at the U.S. Department of Commerce, NASA, Texas Tech University, Universidad Anahuac in Mexico City, and the YMCA. He serves as an adjunct faculty member for the Center for Excellence in Public Leadership (CEPL) at The George Washington University.
Mr. McNamara is an experienced trainer, facilitator, coach, and consultant. He has received training and certifications from the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), the Center for Applied Cognitive Studies (CentACS), the Coaches Training Institute (CTI), and Langevin Learning Services. He has also served a senior program manager for the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service at the Department of Commerce. In his role, he was responsible for a target audience of nearly 1,500 staff, in approximately 80 countries and nearly all U.S. states. His portfolio consisted of leadership development, 360 and other assessments, coaching, communication and conflict management skills, tradecraft skills, technical skills, and organizational development work. He has also managed major congressional and department-level initiatives and training for the Department of Commerce.
He was a candidate in the Department of Commerce’s prestigious Executive Leadership Development Program. During his program, he spent five months at NASA HQ in Washington, DC in the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD). While there, he took on major initiatives working with a cross-functional Tiger Team across NASA field centers and HQ to improve research processes, as well as work with ARMD senior management on workforce development, strategic planning, and communication strategies to stakeholders. He has also served as a task lead for a Performance Excellence Team for the Secretary of Commerce’s Office. He has also participated in the U.S. Coast Guard Academy’s Senior Leadership and Principles and Skills (SLPS) course.
Mr. McNamara received the Secretary of Commerce’s Silver Medal award for Leadership in 2005, and two U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service Director General Awards for Leadership in 2007 for his exemplary work and implementation of organizational and strategic initiatives. He has also been nominated for various organizational awards and honors.
Mr. McNamara holds an MBA in International Business from both Texas Tech University and Universidad Anahuac in Mexico City. He holds a BBA in International Business and a BA in Spanish from Texas Tech University. He is fluent in Spanish. He is an avid soccer player, and played competitively while living in Mexico. He enjoys traveling, soccer, sports, fishing, reading, writing, and spending time outdoors. He is active in the community and is a committee member for N. VA Habitat for Humanity. He resides in Northern Virginia.
